UEFA Cup: Aston Villa v Zilina Betting Preview
We gave you Rebecca Adlington yesterday as a 10/3 alternative to Lewis Hamilton in then SPOTY Betting, but she’s now 3/1.
My 33/1 bet on Standard Liege to win the UEFA Cup has now got me all excited. They thrashed Sampdoria 3-0 last night and have shortened to 20/1. Ladbrokes clearly know a thing or two, they go 14/1! Punters who don’t hold slips may want to get stuck into Aston Villa v Zilina, televised on Channel Five.
Villa are 14/1 to win the competition outright, but are very short at 1/3 to prevail in their match tonight. Martin O’Neill’s side recently beat Ajax 2-1 at Villa Park, and have a 100% record in the competition. I can only ever bet at odds-on when I have everything in my favour, but Aston Villa drew at home to Fulham in their last match and were even beaten at home by Middlesbrough not too long ago.
OK, they have also drawn to Man U and beaten Arsenal away from home, but are they one of those teams that struggles against lowly opposition? Zilina have only picked up 1 point against Ajax, Hamburg and Slavia Prague and are 10/1 with Betfred to win tonight.
There has been some money for the draw at 4/1, which I think offers the best value. Zilina only lost to Ajax and Hamburg by single goal margins, so they are clearly no push overs, no matter what you make of Slovakian domestic form.
If Villa start both Marlon Harewood and 17 year old Nathan Delfouneso, I’m more than happy to take them on. I won’t be banking on 12/1 Styvar to score for the visitors, so the 12/1 0-0 draw makes appeal. Villa have kept 3 clean sheets in a row, which looks decent value tonight at 8/11.
Recommendation:
1/2pt 12/1 0-0 Correct Score
2pts Zilina 4/5 +1.5 Asian Handicap
2pts 8/11 Aston Villa Clean Sheet
