Next Blackburn Manager Betting Preview

Paul Ince was sacked today, following Blackburn‘s 3-0 loss at Wigan. The ‘Next Manager to Go‘ market has been unavailable for a number of days  because of the pressure mounting on Ince. Victor Chandler were the last surrender, still taking bets on Ince at 1/4 this morning. When the market re-opens, I’d expect to see Mark Hughes as the hot favourite, which could be worth an investment before the January transfer window opens.

Of course this means that not only do we still have to focus on the Next Sunderland Manager Betting, but the new market for the Next Blackburn Manager which Bet365 pre-empted last night.

The 5/2 favourite, Graeme Souness, left Blackburn to join Newcastle in September 2004. He did a great job at Ewood Park, with 2 top-half finishes and a Carling Cup in just 3 seasons at the club. Many of the other candidates who are also priced up in the market are the same ones seemingly in contention for the Sunderland job.

Next in the betting comes 3/1 Sam Allardyce. The appointment of Paul Ince by Blackburn last summer was a gamble by the club, as he was moving up 3 leagues. You’d hope for Blackburn’s sake that the club has learned its lesson, so it should really appoint a manager with Premiership form in the book.

Apart from Sam Allardyce, there’s also the inevitable Alan Curbishley at 10/1 also at the head of the market. The rest of the the potential managers are all 18/1 or bigger prices. 25/1 Avram Grant has expressed an interest in returning to England so could be supported. I’d prefer 18/1 Gerard Houllier to go to Sunderland to link up the their French speaking players, but he’s drifted for that job recently.

SkyBet’s 20/1 about Burnely manager Owen Coyle won’t last much longer, as other firms have been cutting his price. The question is whether Coyle decides to move on before he has finished with Burnley in this season’s Carling Cup. 25/1 Steve McClaren is a betting conundrum, after he was pretty well supported for the Black Cats job – who knows what he’s up to? I personally won’t be backing 25/1 Alan Shearer, after he turned down the job this summer. Apparently he wants some time out before he takes the plunge into a coaching career.

Veteran midfielder Tugay is 20/1 to be the next permanent manager with Paddy Power, although that appointment would be even more risky than Ince.

Victor Chandler have a market for Paul Ince’s next job in football. The 10/3 favourite is that he manages a Championship side or you can get 5/1 that he becomes a League 1 Manager. 6/1 about him being a Premier League Assistant Manager isn’t a bad shout, as he has good connections with a variety of clubs. I certainly wouldn’t take 8/1 that he tries his luck as a Premier League Manager again any time soon.
