When we told you yesterday that we couldn’t see Look Here outside the top three in the Coronation Cup, we were spot on! Unfortunately she finished in third, two noses behind Ask. It was a brilliant effort from the filly on her seasonal debut, she may even be worth an investment in the Arc. Stan James go 33/1.

There haven’t been any significant gambles in the Derby market this week, and surprisingly Rip Van Winkle hasn’t been well supported. Perhaps punters are looking to the other Aiden O’Brien runners for the value – Black Bear Island is into 8s from 9/1 earlier this week.

On that note I genuinely don’t feel that 4/7 for a Ballydoyle winner offers value.

3/1 Sea The Stars should cruise home on Timeform ratings, but I think that Debussy could spring the mother of all shocks. 79/1 is available on Betfair.

Another outsider, South Easter, has been declared a non-runner.

The Epsom Derby was won last year by Jim Bolger´s New Approach and it looks as if the prize will be retained by Ireland in 2009. The first seven in the betting are Irish raiders, most representing Aidan O´Brien.

The classic will be run over 1m4f at the Epsom Downs racecourse this Saturday at 3.45pm – coverage on BBC1. This year marks the start of a five year sponsorship by Investec.

Ballydoyle may have six runners, but Corals go evens that Sea The Stars will be sent off favourite.

O´Brien is 1/2 to saddle the winner and a giant 40/1 to train the first five home. Not out of the question.

10/3 Sea The Stars

We weren´t sure whether to back him for the English or Irish 2000 Guineas. I then backed him at 20/1 for the Irish Classic with Ladbrokes, only for him to go and win at Newmarket cosily.

At the time, Sea The Stars was 10/1 for The Derby – generous given that he is by Cape Cross. He should be even better for the Newmarket success, and New Approach proved that the Guineas is still the best Derby trial.

The John Oxx trained colt has been well backed from 4/1 recently. Mick Kinane is almost 50 years old, but believes the horse will stay. Not a bad price.

4/1 Fame And Glory

Johnny Murtagh rides Rip, even though Fame And Glory won the Irish Derby Trial by five lengths last month. Mourayan was disappointing that day, so he didn´t beat much. Stamina assured but will he handle the track?

9/2 Rip Van Winkle

Every punter must respect the Johnny Murtagh choice – he very rarely gets in wrong in Group One company. He has a soft spot for Rip Van Winkle, who has caught the eye in both the Dewhurst and the 2000 Guineas.

His dam is by a sprinter, but he definitely stayed on well at Newmarket behind Sea The Stars. Should place, so consider for the forecasts.

7/1 Gan Amhras

Any rain would be a positive, but Kevin Manning still has another great chance at Derby glory. Solid third in the 2000 Guineas, but he is another contender by Galileo that should relish the step up in distance. A decent each way bet.

9/1 Black Bear Island

Three of the last five Derby winners won the Dante beforehand and Tartan Bearer finished second last year. He has some other form in the book, but wasn´t hugely impressive in the Dante. Not a price I want to take.

16/1 Masterofthehorse

Only won once and was beaten fair and square in the Chester Vase. At the prices you´d have to take Golden Sword for the value. Richard Hughes rides.

25/1 Age Of Aquarius

I rate Pat Smullen as a jockey, but Age Of Aquarius was made to work hard to land the odds at Lingfield last time out.

25/1 Kite Wood

I fancy that Godolphin won´t win a British Classic this year, but Kite Wood is the pick of their crop.

He showed much promise for Michael Jarvis, but was only fifth in this year´s Dante at York. He´ll come on for that, but he does tend to get warm before the race. If he drifts out I may stick a quid or two if I can get 33/1 or bigger.

Frankie Dettori is a safe pair of hands.

33/1 Crowded House

Drifted out to 2/1 in the Dante and ran a shocker. Connections didn´t think he´d need the run, so I don´t think that backers should really persevere with this one, even if 33s is a whopping price. Don´t put the house on Crowded, despite what you read in the tabloids this Saturday.

40/1 Golden Sword

Value for his 40/1(Ladbrokes) and not given enough credit for his Chester Vase success (25/1). Doesn´t need soft ground.

50/1 Montaff

Finished only a neck behind Age Of Aquarius in the Lingfield Derby trial, but will need to show even more improvement to get involved in this tougher contest.

50/1 South Easter

Neil Callan is getting tips from the great Lester Piggott for his first Derby, but South Easter won´t be the one to spoil the Irish parade. His sire, Galileo, won the Derby in 2001.

66/1 Debussy

Stayed on in the Chester Vase and has Epsom form which is a HUGE bonus. You would kick yourself if John Gosden won the Derby – he has been in terrific form this year. Jimmy Fortune could land this in the same colours as New Approach; there are worse each way punts out there.

Recommendation:

1. 66/1 Debussy (Must be backed each way, Ladbrokes)

2. 40/1 Golden Sword (Could be anything, cheeky punt here)

3. 25/1 Kite Wood (Try to find at least 33s before race)

A market has opened on the Next Norwich Manager following Glen Roeder‘s sacking. The Canaries are just out of the Championship drop zone on goal difference, meaning that they are 11/4 to be relegated.

Skybet and Ladbrokes were the first to form markets, but they had differing opinions. Skybet had Boothroyd as their 5/2 favourite, whilst Ladbrokes made Mark Robins their 9/2 market leader.

Laddies were forced to cut Aidy Boothroyd from 6/1, and he is now a 5/4 chance. We have seen Boothroyd feature in the Leeds and Derby manager betting, and it won’t be long until he finds some suitable work.

At the moment it would seem that only 2 other candidates are being considered: Paul Ince and Bruce Rioch. It seemed like Nigel Worthington was a possibility, but he’s now out to 11/1. Ince has been backed into 11/10 from 10/1, as he is looking to get back into the dugout. Rioch is into 16/1 from 20/1, and is free from previous club Aalborg.

Bryan Gunn will take charge of the team for the Barnsley game, but is a temporary appointment. Still 20/1 doesn’t seem like a bad price, does it?

Gary McAllister and Ian Holloway were given outside chances, but both are now out to 33s. I don’t have a strong opinion on this market, but Skybet do – they’re laying Mark Robins at 12/1. Robins scored 20 goals in 68 games for the club, and could make the switch from managing Rotherham.

bookies.com conveniently compares all football odds in one place – so make sure you always get the best available price!

Stephen Ireland is one to be on the right side of in the goalscoring markets, as he has scored 4 in the last 3 games. Any takers at 14/1 for him to score first in the Manchester derby?

The feature race of tomorrow’s televised cards is the Hennessy Gold Cup, where 17 runners will each be hoping to emulate Denman‘s victory last year.

2.40 Newbury HENNESSY GOLD CUP CHASE 3m21/2f

11/2 Big Buck’s (167)

Stablemate Denman won this race last year at similar odds, and we all know what happened next. Paul Nicholls has been talking this one up for some time now, earning the horse ambitious 25/1 quotes for the Gold Cup. Even if he was to win this race, I wouldn’t be sure about backing him for the festival. Big Buck’s made a few mistakes at Aintree in his last race, and he’ll need to put in a better performance to win this. Kauto Star was hugely disappointing last weekend, meaning that the bookies are happy to push the horse out to 11/2 from 5/1.

6/1 Air Force One (168)

Reported to be in the ‘form of his life’ by trainer Charlie Mann, and should come on for his Ascot run, in which he finished 2nd to Roll Along. A decent alternative to the favourite, but you’d be happier taking the 10/1 on offer earlier this month.

7/1 Character Building (157)

A big scopey chaser, this one fills the Denman mold, who he finished 3rd to in last year’s edition. He stays well and jumps fluently and currently well fancied for the Grand National at 25/1

8/1 Island Flyer (166)

Should improve for his appearance at Wincanton and carried the ideal weight, 10 stone. No surprise to see that he has been subject to a mini gamble, and has been halved in price from 16′s.

9/1 Albertas Run (165)

Won the SunAlliance at Cheltenham last season, and I think he could well turn the tables on Big Buck’s after finishing 3rd in the same race at Aintree. The race wasn’t run to suit, but the Hennessy should have a strong gallop as the Newbury course is flat. He didn’t give a true account of himself at Carlisle this month because of the ground, but is entitled to come on for the run. AP McCoy’s ride has been supported into 9/1, a price that I’m happy to take.

14/1 Oedipe (172)

Nicky Henderson is in terrific form and Oedipe looks to have a good chance, having found 2m4f inadequate at Punchestown. Will go on any ground and shouldn’t need prep race.

16/1 Slim Pickings (160)

Perhaps he doesn’t stay the Grand National distance, so he’ll be one to keep an eye on this Saturday. Will jump well and should be tip-top after a 2m prep race at Navan. Each-way chance.

16/1 Royal County Star (160)

The Irish haven’t won this race for some time now, but Tony Martin will be hoping that a prep race at Navan has blown away the seasonal cobwebs.

18/1 High Chimes (160)

Horse has been on the upgrade but more will be required to win a top class race like this. Another that will welcome any rain before the off.

19/1 Dear Villez (160)

Won the Munster National and will love the ground. Could well run a big race for Paul Nicholls.

21/1 Snoopy Loopy (172)

Snoopy is going for the Order of Merit and was a shock winner of the Betfair Chase last week. His big price probably reflects the view that the 2 races are too close together, but don’t rule him out!

25/1 Verasi (157)

Reported to be fit and well and will welcome the forecast 5mm to 6mm rain between now and the race. Trainer gives him an each-way chance.

30/1 Knowhere (167)

Will find it difficult under top weight, but Denman defied the same penalty to win it last year. This horse is classy on his day but probably best watched. Having beaten Snoopy Loopy and Exotic Dancer last time out, I make him around a 15/1 shot.

40/1 Always Waning (163)

Likes a strong pace, but Peter Bowen is probably relying on Snoopy Loopy to get in the money. Targeting the National, in which he is 100/1 in the antepost market.

50/1 My Will

Hasn’t raced since April 2007, and jockey booking confirms that Big Buck’s is the stable’s main hope.

50/1 Madison Du Berlais (168)

Was ‘lazy’ at Ascot when beaten by Air Force One.

66/1 Monkerhostin (167)

A massive price for such an honest horse. Monkerhostin won the Bet365 Chase last season at Sandown but disappointed in the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby when he made a mistake. Phillip Hobbs believes the horse will act on the ground and will like the course. Let’s hope that we aren’t discounting a big price winner after we thought 50/1 Snoopy Loopy was a massive price in the Betfair Chase last weekend.

Recommendation:

2pt each way 9/1 Albertas Run
